Eunice Lodewyk AND Laya KIEWIETS

Die Knysna Independent Movement stel Eunice Lodewyk en Laya Kiewiets voor as ons distriksmunisipale kandidate in die plaaslike verkiesing vir 2021. 

Beide Eunice en Laya is in Keurhoek woonagtig waar hulle aktief deelneem aan gemeenskapswerk. Beide kandidate het hulle matriek voltooi deur die ABET volwasse leerprogram wat deur dieonderwys departement aangebied word. 

Eunice het in 2005 ‘n nasionale sertifikaat in Gemeenskapsontwikkeling verwerf vanaf die Universiteit van Weskaapland en is aangestel deur die departement van maatskaplike ontwikkeling as ‘n gemeenskapsontwikkelings werker in Rheenedal en Karatara, vanaf 2008 tot 2011. Sy het tussen 2013 en 2017 as ‘n kontrakteur gewerk op die Werk-vir-Water Program. Eunice het haar ontwikkelingswerk voortgesit deur die fasilitering van gemeenskaps werkswinkels, insluitende vir klein besigheidsontwikkeling, dwelm bekamping, ouerskap. Daarbenewens was sy ‘n medestigter van ‘n gemeenskapsgroentetuin en ‘n herwinningsprojek. Sy spits haarself ook toe op vrywillige werk as assistent onderwyser en vakansie programme vir kinders. Sy was die sekretaris van die Rheenendal Sport Beheerliggaam vir 6 jaar, is die sekretaris van die Gemeenskapsbehuisingskommittee en het ook op die gemeenskapspolisie sub-forum vir Keurhoek gedien.

Laya woon sedert 1999 in Rheenedal en werk tans as ‘n huishulp. Sy het in 2000 by die Rooikruis Vereeniging aangesluit as ‘n eerstehulp vrywillige en doen tans opleiding en verteenwoordig haar wyk op ‘n Nationale Vrywilligersraad sedert 2015. Nadat sy as ‘n Sondagskool onderwyser begin het, het sy begin om Sondae pap aan die kinders verskaf. Later het sy op kinders op Vrydae middae gevoer en ‘n sopkombuis begin. Die sopkombuis is as sedert 2016 aan die gang. Sy is in 2012 tot die wykskommitee vir Wyk 5 verkies en dien tans vir ‘n tweede termyn. Sy dien op die Rheenedal Raad van Belanghebbendes van die Departement van Landelike Ontwikkeling. Sy verteenwoordig gesondheid en vroue in landbou en het die “Gras Groen Vingers” groentetuin in haar gemeenskap begin. Sy is ook die voorsitter van “Rheenendal Breakthrough Developers” en dien op die behuisingskomitee. 

Die kandidate is goed vertroud met die landelike areas wat van distriks-dienslewering afhanklik is en beoog om namens KIM op die volgende prioriteite te fokus vir Knysna in die Distriksraad: 

  • Gereelde dienste om distrik paaie instand te hou en plaaslike verskaffers en werkers vir die doel te gebruik. 
  • Die bevordering van distriksbelegging in ekonomiese ontwikkelingsgeleenthede, veral in landelike gebiede. 
  • Distrik Munisipale samewerking in die lewering van streek maatskaplike dienste.
  • Distrik munisipale samewerking vir die verskaffing van bekostigbare behuisingsgeleenthede. 
  • Die uitbreiding van werksgeleenthede vir werklose persone in Knysna in distrik projekte.

The Knysna Independent Movement proudly introduces Eunice Lodewyk and Laya Kiewiets as our district municipal candidates in the local government election in 2021. 

Both Eunice and Laya live in Keurhoek where they are active community workers. Both candidates earned their matric through the ABET adult education programme, offered by the education department. 

Eunice earned a national certificate in Community Development at the University of the Western Cape in 2005 and was appointed through the department of community development as a community development worker in Rheenendal and Karatara from 2008 to 2011. She worked as a contractor in the Working-for-Water Programme between 2013 and 2017. Eunice continued her development work through facilitating community workshops, including for small business development, drug combatting and parenting. In addition, she was the co-founder of a community food garden and a recycling project. She commits herself to volunteer work as assistant teacher and holiday programmes for children. She was the secretary of the Rheenendal Sport Governing Body for 6 years, is the secretary of the Community Housing Committee and also served on the community police sub-forum for Keurhoek. 

Laya has been living in Rheenendal since 1999 and is currently working as a domestic worker. She joined the Red Cross Association as a first aid volunteer in 2000 and is, currently, doing training and has represented her ward on a national volunteers’ board since 2015. After starting as a Sunday school teacher, she started providing porridge to children on Sundays. Thereafter she started feeding children on Fridays and started a soup kitchen. The soup kitchen has been running since 2016. She was elected to the ward committee for Ward 5 and is, currently, serving her second term. She serves on the Department of Rural Development Rheenendal Council of Stakeholders. She represents health and women in agriculture and started the “Gras Groen Vingers” food garden in her community. She is also the chairperson of the Rheenendal Breakthrough Developers and serves on the housing committee. 

The candidates are well familiar with the rural areas that are dependent on district service delivery and aims to focus on the following priorities for Knysna on behalf of KIM in the District Council:

  • Regular services to maintain district roads and local suppliers and workers for that purpose. 
  • The promotion of district investment in economic development opportunities, especially in rural areas.  
  • District Municipal cooperation in the delivery of regional social services. 
  • District Municipal cooperation for the provision of affordable housing opportunities.  
  • The expansion of work opportunities for unemployed persons in Knysna in district projects.
