Andiswa Mankayi

The Knysna Independent Movement announces Andiswa Mankayi as the candidate for Knysna Wards 4 and 8 in the local government elections 2021.

Andiswa was born in Knysna and grew up in Ward 4. She attended Chris Nissen and Thembelitsha Primary Schools and Percy Mdala High School. After school she obtained an office administration certificate. Andiswa currently resides in Ward 8 and works as a waitron at a hotel, where she started as a kitchen assistant.

She is an active member of the Knysna Backyard Dweller’s Association and is a community youth voice, who understands the lived reality of many young people who were born and raised in Knysna.

  • Andiswa will pursue the following priorities in Council on behalf of Wards 4 and 8:Lobbying for bulk infrastructure investment into roads and storm water and looking at innovative ways to provide dignified basic sanitation services for people still living in informal areas.
  • Establishing youth training and skills development opportunities for young people in the ward, so that they have better chances to access work and seeking opportunities for the upgrading of sporting facilities. 
  • Building cooperative relationships with human settlements departments to lobby for continued integrated human settlement projects and exploring safe ways of upgrading settlements on slopes. 
  • Installation of gutters and rainwater tanks in homes in the ward. 
  • Promotion of food security through the establishment of food gardens.
